The New York Athletic Club on Central Park South was this year’s host to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America annual press conference introducing the newest members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mike Piazza become the 311th and 312th elected members to baseball’s most prestigious club. Words such as humbled, honored, and grateful were used with great regularity as both men addressed the media as a group as well as in individual sessions.
