U.S. airlines had fewer long tarmac delays in 2014 than ever before

The 2010 law regulating long tarmac delays has had its desired effect.

U.S. airlines had the lowest number of delays on record in 2014, with 30 domestic flights delayed on the tarmac longer than three hours and nine international flights delayed longer than four hours, according to the Department of Transportation.

The DOT penalizes airlines for those longer delays.

“These tarmac delay rules are meant to protect passengers and it appears that the airlines have gotten the message,” DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement Tuesday. Read more...
