The future of streaming in Australia looks pretty depressing

As the dust settles after the entry of Netflix into the Australian entertainment market in March, a big question remains: Just how many streaming services can Australia handle?

If you're of the opinion more is more when it comes to film and television options, you may be in for some bad news.

Although Netflix and local companies offering subscription video on demand (SVOD) services like Presto, Quickflix and Stan are out there trying to snap up subscribers and turn a buck — given Australia's small population, the enduring popularity of free-to-air TV and the outlook for market consolidation — the answer may be a couple less than you think.
