David Letterman celebrated his last show at the helm of CBS' The Late Show Wednesday night, ending a 22-year run as host — and an overall 33-year run in late night comedy

The show opened with a montage of presidents from George Bush Sr. to Barack Obama saying, "Our long national nightmare is over." The nightmare, of course, being Letterman
The comedian continued his monologue by making jokes about his future: "Paul and I will be debuting our new act at Ceasars Palace with white tigers," and what he's worried about now that he no longer has a talk show.
