North Charleston residents have little faith in police despite officer arrest

NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina — Former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager was charged with murder after he fatally shot Walter Scott in the back last weekend, here, but that doesn't mean residents suddenly trust the police department

Residents told Mashable that their distrust stems from years of police racially profiling black residents, and complaints against officers that go nowhere

In some ways, their distrust has only increased since Slager was charged. Several officers who arrived at the scene, following the shooting, filed police reports that said they either helped officer Clarence Habersham administer CPR on Scott or saw it happen.
