
LONDON — More than 28,000 people have signed a petition calling for the north of England to break away from the "London-centric south" and join Scotland.
The proposal on Change.org, which was published last year but has picked up steam this week (thousands added their voice overnight), argues that the north of the country should join a newly independent Scotland. The proposed boundary would run below Liverpool and Sheffield.
While they're jumping the gun somewhat — Scotland voted against independence last year and there's currently no new referendum scheduled — the petition reignited a debate over nationality in the week following the general election. Read more...
