First off, we've got nothing against rebootsStar Trek's worked pretty well, and Battlestar Galactica's was epic (let's just not talk about the Spider-Man movies).
However, looking at this trailer for the Jem and the Holograms movie, we have to wonder why the creators even bothered. We'll reserve final judgment until we see the actual film, but it seems pretty clear the story ditches most of the sci-fi and adventure that made the series unique, substituting a vanilla-favored story that we've seen in dozens of tween flicks: Sudden fame can be toxic to friendships.
